This post shares a yellow painted nightstand makeover using Decoart Americana Decor Satin Enamels paint in Honey Gold. This project was originally completed for DecoArt as part of our ongoing partnership, and I was compensated to complete this makeover.
Yellow Painted Nightstand Makeover
Today I am sharing the adorable yellow painted nightstand makeover—a cute little retro side table I found at our local Habitat for Humanity Restore. Even though the table was in rough shape, I absolutely loved it. It’s a simple piece, and for a grand total of $10, I knew a few coats of paint could bring this thing back to life.
Here’s how it looked when I brought it home:
Supplies
(Affiliate links below; read more about those here)
- Orbital sander—I have this one
- DecoArt Satin Enamels paint in Honey Gold
- Zinsser Bulls Eye Primer
- Chip brushes—here’s a multipack for a good price
And here are the yellow painted nightstand makeover steps!
(Make sure to read the instructions for your paint and always wear a mask and goggles when sanding—and a mask is never a bad idea when you’re painting!)
Step 1: Use the orbital sander to sand down all of the rough spots. You can see I sanded down a bit more in some of the bad spots.
Step 2: Since I broke open the finish sanding down some of the rougher spots, I decided to cover the entire thing in a coat of primer. Usually the DecoArt Satin Enamels paint doesn’t require a primer if you’re painting over a sealed surface.
Step 3: Then I painted the entire piece using the Honey Gold color from the DecoArt Satin Enamels line. I usually don’t do bold colors on furniture, but I liked the fact that the original piece was yellow and wanted to keep it the same style.
I like to turn my furniture pieces upside down to start painting; it makes it easier to reach into some of the nooks and crannies on the legs.
And here’s the finished product!
What do you think? It’s so cute! This nightstand now lives in my coworker’s son’s room in his little reading nook. 🙂

You really have a great sense of color, the honey gold color is looking good on the table. Amazing makeover.
This turned out great! Love the pop of yellow, too (I’m a sucker for bright colors). I’ve always wanted to check out our local ReStore outpost for furniture that’s begging for a makeover — clearly I need to go and visit soon.
