This post shares our home for Christmas. We’re doing simple and understated Christmas decor this year with a focus on natural greens and neutral colors.
Our Simple and Understated Christmas Decor
Today I’m sharing our home for Christmas this year! I love taking a simple approach to holiday decor. Especially since I don’t have any desire to decorate for fall (like the bad blogger I am), I really look forward to Christmas. We decorate a bit early much to the chagrin of some of you, but I held off on sharing until after Thanksgiving. 🙂
I’m especially excited for Christmas this year because we didn’t do any decorating last year. Tootie was only a few weeks old, so we just got a little tabletop tree. This year we put our normal tree back up, and it looks lovely! Our Christmas decor is mostly contained to the tree, but I also have a few touches of greenery and candles around the house. We moved a little side table form our living room to make room for the tree. I put it over by our dining table and decided to make a little winter vignette.
I’ve had the candle holder and black pot, but I got the little tree, eucalyptus, and twigs for the arrangement in the vase. Oh—I also got the vase on an Ikea bender, which is basically my dream day. It was actually in a pack of two.
We also have a big display of pine sprigs on the table.
This shelf is the closest thing we have to a mantle in our house 🙂 And here is the other vase from that Ikea 2-pack…
The white part was actually ivory when I got it, but I wanted a high contrast look, so I gave it a few coats of satin white spray paint. (I taped over the black part and left that as is.)
I also painted these candlesticks, which were ivory as well. The little deer has been in Ramona’s room on her window sill. I’ve had those for a few years. I can’t even remember where I got them, but I shuffle them around the house.
After I took these pictures, I added a jar of pine sprigs. Too lazy to retake all of the pictures, so I just grabbed a few showing the greens 😉
Our tree is over in the living room. It’s the same faux tree we’ve had for a few years, and it’s from Home Depot. It’s a great faux tree. My parents used it last year and tried to keep it this year, but I said no way! It’s the perfect size for our space. We really can’t do a fuller, wider tree.
You can see a lot of my DIY ornaments on the tree, and the branch star topper is a few years old from Michaels.
And here the tree is at night! Absolutely lovely. 🙂 I love sitting on the couch looking at it. So far the cats have only torn down a few ornaments. They’re mostly enjoying staring at it with crazy eyes.
Family Photos
The wonderful Stadtkind Photography took some family photos of us in our home after I’d gotten all of the Christmas stuff up as well. We were so excited to have these done (well, I was) because we have so few photos of us all three together.
What do you think? Do you like our simple, understated Christmas decor? I hope it inspires you and shows you that you can have a lovely home for the holidays without a bunch of stuff 🙂
