Modern Powder Room Makeover on a Budget
It’s the final week of the $100 room makeover challenge hosted by Erin at Lemons, Lavender, and Laundry, and I’m so ready to share my modern powder room makeover on a budget with you! I won’t make you wait with a bunch of filler text up here…I just have to say that I am really happy with how it turned out!

Here’s a reminder of the before…

And now for the final room…
This is a small room, so it was really hard to shoot and still get the full effect. Let’s start out with the view of the right side of the room first. I painted a black accent wall, mounted shelves for storage and trinkets, and added some fake plants. This room gets no light, so I had to go the fake route. 🙂

Watercolor Art
Shifting a bit to the left in the room…this is the main wall you see when the powder room door is open. I used Ikea Ribba frames to frame these adorable watercolor prints from Dandelion Paper Co. (Direct sources for each print: Hedgehog // Sloth // Bunny // Owl // Octopus // Squirrel)
You can also see the toilet paper roll I spray painted using matte black spray paint. When you’re on a budget, spray paint is almost always the answer.

Mirror & Sink
Now to the left side of the space, where the pedestal sink and mirror live. This side was also a pretty dramatic transformation. I talked about the mirror in this post…we originally thought it was too bling-y for me, but once I saw it in the store, I changed my mind. I think it packs a fun punch in the small space.

Given the budget and whatnot, I decided to just swap out the shades on the fixture for something a bit sleeker looking. I’m really happy with the upgrade.

The towel rack was originally above the toilet, which was pretty awkward. Even though the bathroom is super small, it seemed too far away from the sink. So I decided to just pop a little hook on the wall and use a hand towel from our kitchen. I love the hand towels from Ikea that have the hanging loops on them.

Thanks to the reflection in the mirror, this is probably the best shot I’ll get of the entire bathroom at once! (Though it’s heartbreaking that the flower crown sloth isn’t included.)

And because everyone loves a few before and after shots:

The final money tally…
Here’s what I already had and reused:
- Paint & paint supplies
- Toilet roll (spray painted it)
- Hand towel from kitchen
- Scrap wood for shelving
- Stain & polyurethane for shelving
Here’s what I bought:
Mirror, $75, gift card from credit card pointsShades for light fixture, $10, gift card from credit card pointsShelving brackets, $16, out of pocketArt, $65, out of pocketFrames, $30, out of pocketTowel hook, $4, gift card from credit card pointsSpackling,$4, gift card from credit card points
So in my first post I said that I would be doing my modern powder room makeover on a budget of $100 by using a gift card from my credit card points to keep costs down. Gift cards covered the mirror, spackling, light shades, and little towel hook. I ended up spending $111 out of pocket, so I did bust my budget, but only by $11. I am still really happy with the results and the amount of money I didn’t spend on the space! What do you think?

I absolutely LOVE this makeover! I have been wanting to do something similar with my very tiny powder room which is not very nice and it's what everyone that comes over sees! I wish I was as daring as you to use black. I like in a rental, so I am scared of painting any wall though the owner is ok with it. You've inspired me though!

Thank you Maria! I will say that I haven't painted over black, but I did some research before painting it, and as long as you use a good quality paint to paint over it, you should be fine!
