Breadwinning Mom Free SVG Cut File Bundle
Who’s ready to challenge some societal gender norms with today’s Offbeat Cut File Friday? That’s right, we’re talking stay-at-home dads and breadwinning moms. Because modern families can look a lot of different ways.
Did you guys know that the number of stay-at-home parents was about the same in 2018 as it was in 1989? But the number of stay-at-home dads increased. Evolving gender roles have likely contributed to this, as has the larger number of women in the workforce.
Speaking of women in the workforce, as of 2013, a record-breaking 40% of women were the primary or sole breadwinner for their households (this includes single moms, but it didn’t specify whether it includes same-sex couples). This is up from 11% in 1960, which, to be honest, kinda impressed me for 1960.
Some more findings from Pew Research:
- Total family income is higher when the mother, not the father, is the primary breadwinner.
- Married mothers are increasingly better educated than their husbands. The share of couples in which the mother has attained a higher education than her spouse has gone up from 7% in 1960 to 23% in 2011.
- Most people now reject the idea that it is bad for a marriage if a wife out-earns her husband.
- Today’s single mothers are much more likely to be never married than were single mothers in the past.
So what do we do to celebrate changing societal norms and gender identities? We cut that shit out of some vinyl and put it on a coffee mug. (Or, you know, whatever you want to put it on.)
In addition to the two files you see in this post, I have two more you can grab from this four-file bundle. Peeks of those in the Pinnable graphics below 🙂
