I have been writing this post in my head for a while now—I finally decided to just sit down, put fingers to keyboard, and write it: I have decided to retire my blog.
It has been a really great few years, and I’m thankful for all of the relationships and connections I’ve made. But if I’m being honest, running a DIY/home blog has lost some of the appeal it once had. I can’t really explain it—I guess I’m just burnt out. I work a full-time job, and keeping up with everything has become more of a chore than something I enjoy doing. Also, a lot of the behind-the-scenes stuff like social media and the hustle of constantly trying to create good content for you has just become too much right now. I just know it’s time to retire things. I’m planning to keep all of my archives up, and I will probably keep my mailing list up in case I ever decide to come out of retirement for an occasional project or two. Which, knowing me, is likely 🙂
So what’s next for me? I’m starting a new side project that will take me in a completely different direction. I’m not ready to share details just yet (I forgot how hard it is getting from idea to implementation), but it’s going to be a writing/storytelling/photo journalism project. In the meantime, you can also always keep in touch with me over on Twitter, still at @brittanymerth. I’ll still be doing some freelance painting and DIY projects that I’ll make sure to share there, too. 🙂 Oh, and I’ll still be pinning stuff when I’m bored.
But Before I Go…
But before I go, I want to take a walk down memory lane and share my ten favorite projects. Because I can’t just close up shop without browsing through my archives for a few hours and agonizing over whether this is the right decision or not. So here they are! (In no particular order, except obviously the cat tree is my favorite.)
