I love sugar and salt scrubs, especially in the winter when my skin gets really dry. I don’t even mind that they make the bottom of the shower slippery slippery because they are so moisturizing and make my skin so soft. They are pretty easy to make, and you probably already have some of the ingredients in your kitchen. The one I’m making today is a bit more complicated than a basic sugar and oil scrub because its copy cat recipe from a peppermint and vanilla scrub my mom got me for Christmas. All I did was gather the ingredients listed on the back of the jar; then, I estimated how much of each ingredient the scrub included to make my own peppermint and vanilla sugar scrub recipe. I made a pretty big batch.
- 2 1/4 cups white or brown sugar (I used regular sugar but suggest using fine grain if you want a smoother scrub or if you have sensitive skin)
- 1/4 cup coconut oil
- 2 ounces shea butter
- Argan oil (read more about it here)
- Peppermint essential oil (read more about it here)
- Rosemary essential oil (read more about it here)
- Organic vanilla extract
- Mixing bowl and butter knife or spoon.

Step #1: First I dumped the sugar, coconut oil, and shea butter into the mixing bowl. I popped it into the microwave for about 30 seconds. This melts the coconut oil and help to make the shea butter more malleable. I stir to mix until the shea butter is broken up.
Step #2: Next I added 8 drops argan, 15 drops peppermint, 3 drops rosemary, and about one tsp vanilla extract. I actually settled on these numbers after dropping some in, stirring, and monitoring the scent.
